The G3 Synapse Carbon is one lightest carbon-infused touring skis to hit the market this season.
The day I took the Synapse on a tour we has sunny skies and warm, sticky snow—pretty standard spring conditions in the Wasatch. These skis are incredibly light, weighing in at under three pounds each. On the way up I hardly even noticed the skis, it was like walking in shoes, and the slight camber underfoot is perfect in the skin track. I was surprised by how little fatigue I had when we made it to the top of the run.
On the descent, it took a few turns to adjust to the lightness of the ski. You need to be a little more delicate, but once I got the hang of them they had great floatation and a surfy feel in the soft stuff. I can imagine getting thrown around a little if I was trying to plow through crustier snow or avy debris.
The Synapse is 130 mm in the tip, 101 underfoot, and 118 in the tail. The Freeride rocker tip keeps them above the fluff and the low profile stealth tail kept the skis stable in tight situations- which will make these skis a good option in sketchier ski mountaineering situations.
If your in the market for an ultralight touring ski that’s going to be great on the way up yet still offer solid freeride performance on the descent, I’d definitely suggest checking out the G3 Synapse Carbon.
