The German CEO of Save the Children, Kathrin Wieland, thanks VAUDE and their customers for the support of Save the Children’s emergency relief in Japan.
A 9.0 magnitude earthquake shook the northeast of Japan on 11 March 2011, followed by severe aftershocks. The earthquake triggered a tsunami of 10 meters which caused devastating human and physical damages, especially in Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima prefectures.
Save the Children opened 19 child-friendly spaces where children could spend time, play with other children to cope with the traumatic experiences they had encountered. Besides this, we equipped thousands of children with back to school kits, provide schools and kindergartens with school lunches, teaching materials and first aid kits. By offering psychological support, we help families to return to a normal life.
Save the Children set up a 3-year response and recovery plan which focuses on affected children and their families.
