The three skis of Atomic’s Automatic lineup are built for freeski powder hounds who charge hard on the steep and deep. Of the three, the widest, beastliest Automatic 117 Ski leads the pack like a wild wolf on the hunt. That hunt is for the steepest terrain and the deepest snow, because this fatty of a ski features a versatile and progressive Powder Rocker profile that is ideal for floating in and out of the deepest champagne and bombing over cruddy crap, chunky death cookies, or crumbly corn snow. It’s the rockered tip and tail that allow for this float and provide supremely easy turn initiation. Camber underfoot gives you beastly strong edge-hold at speed and on hardpack for those races to the bottom to catch last chair.
When you break out the 117, you better button up your powder skirt, cinch down your gloves, and whip out your snorkel. A Lite Woodcore makes for smooth flex and fluid turns, keeping things light and making this a hell of a ski for boot packing that ridge line or giving it an all-out AT setup. Atomic made this monster 10% stiffer than last year’s model for super-aggressive skiing ability. Its interior titanium alloy SPB Sprocket Power Booster inserts in front of and behind the binding area maximize stability, allowing you to charge the chop with style and confidence.
