[The Rome Mountain Division is one of our new big mountain boards for the 2014/15 season.] It has a directional shape, and features Rome’s new “free-the-ride” profile, which places camber in the rear with a flat section under the front foot, transitioning into a rockered nose. The result is a board that provides powerful response in the turns with ample float for the deepest days.
In addition to the “free-the-ride” profile, the Mountain Division is laid up with carbon TurboRods for added pop, a 2-inch strip of Zylon down the center for enhanced response, and a high-end sintered base for speed.
[The first day I rode the Mountain Division we had about 8-inches of fresh snow, and the second day brought bluebird conditions and some heavier hot pow.] The board felt light underfoot and I immediately noticed the quickness of the base.
As expected, the Mountain Division destroyed groomers at speed and had a fun surfy feel in the powder. I really noticed the rear camber and rockered nose combining to keep me set-back on landings. The extra support in the tail gives this board a genuine landing gear for big airs.
The Mountain Division isn’t going to be the best choice for park riding, but if you’re mainly concerned with ripping terrain and powder at speed, you can’t go wrong with this thing. [As our friends at Rome say, the Mountain division is “for those who don’t give a shit about park.”]
