[We were very excited to find the Rome Gang Plank in our line-up of freestyle boards this year.] All new for the 2014/15 season, the Gang Plank has a true twin shape, a flat profile underfoot, and a bit of rocker in the nose and tail. Rome didn’t skimp on the tech either, they laid a thin bamboo rod down the center for added snap and used a new elastic sidewall compound for better durability in the park.
The idea with the Gang Plank was to give riders a soft and creative feel in the park without ruining the boards ability to lay down some turns. And in my estimation, they succeeded.
The day I rode the Gang Plank we had ideal spring conditions—sunny and nearly fifty degrees with soft packed snow. I spent most of the time lapping the park to get a good feel for the board.
I was quick to notice the board’s lite and snappy feel, and then how responsive and easy it was to initiate a turn. The edges felt soft and weren’t catchy, the result being a board that slid sideways like a champ.
The flat camber shape and rockered tip and tail really do allow this board to be a creative extension of the rider. The rocker made it considerably easier to press on boxes and rails and helped with softer impacts on landings.
If you’re the type of rider who spends a fair amount of time lapping the park, but who still wants the ability to rip some turns and ride creatively on the entire mountain—The Rome Gang Plank is a fun loving board that won’t let you down.
