2015 RIDE ALTER EGO

0

Ride describes the new Alter Ego as a freestyle backcountry shape with options, and I think that’s a pretty good description. This powder hound features a unique tail with a split down the middle. You can lock the clip at the end of the tail when charging at high speeds and sending jumps, or leave it hanging for a surfy, swallowtail-like feel in pow.
A mostly camber profile provides stability, edge hold, and pop, while a rocker zone towards the nose adds lift to keep you afloat in the deep stuff. Carbon Array 3 laminates increase pop and strength while minimizing weight. Popwalls sidewalls also feature carbon for quick response, along with Slimewalls urethane to quiet chatter and keep the ride smooth.
I rode the Alter Ego on a snowy pow day at Brighton and it was insanely fun. I pretty much kept the tail clip unlocked all day and it allowed for quick, surfy turns that were a blast to rip whether I was in an open pow field or cruising through tight trees. Rather than making landings more difficult, having the tail unlocked also seemed to improve forgiveness and allow me to ride away from cliffs I might otherwise have washed out on. It also helped absorb chatter when riding through chunder in tracked-out zones.
When I first saw this board, I was skeptical about how it would ride, but after a couple runs it was clear to me that the Alter Ego is no gimmick. Give it a try and see for yourself.
