The Moment Chipotle Banana is Carston Oliver’s personal pro model, available in a limited release for the 2014/15 season.
The day I tested the Chipotle Banana was unfortunately not ideal for the ski; hard snow conditions early in the morning. I have skied it on some soft days though, so I got a good feel for how well this thing performs in the powder.
With 139 mm in tip, 122 underfoot, and 134 in the tail, this is definitely for the advanced skier as the width can be a bit to handle. Moment describes this ski as the middle ground between a soft rockered pow ski and a stiff big mountain rig. To me, it felt like a cross between the Moment Bibby and the Ghost Train- so I’d say that’s a pretty fair characterization.
The subtle full rocker shape definitely keeps it loose and playful in the soft stuff, and the early taper made for easier turn initiation. The Chipotle Banana is laid up with a stiff aspen/ash core with more carbon and fiberglass than in any other Moment ski. The long 33m sidecut radius is also matched to the rocker shape, the idea being to keep the ski maneuverable in tight zones without sacrificing any of it’s ability to charge big lines.
This isn’t going to be the best everyday ski, but for the deep days and soft chunder it’s a dream. For a big, stiff powder ski that likes to float and go fast, the Moment Chipotle Banana is just the thing you’ve been looking for.
