After three years Armada has completely retooled their famed VJJ to provide an even more versatile powder-centric ski for female rippers. The VJJ has securely held a place on my top 3 list ever since its debut in 2011 and I was absolutely dying to give the updated VJJ 2.0 a whirl.
We found a delightful coating of new snow awaiting our crew the day I tested the VJJ 2.0 up at Alta Ski Resort. I found the powder performance to be a blast, as expected. It is no less surfy than its ancestor and I had a blast buttering through the soft snow off Wildcat and on Ballroom.
I was most anxious to try the VJJ 2.0 on groomers and choppy snow in order to assess the new shape and the tweaks that Armada made. Though it’s definitely not a carver, the VJJ of the past has been my quiver ski of choice for Snowbird and Alta because it handles groomers very well considering its shape and girth. I found the VJJ 2.0 to be far more responsive and grippy when railing down groomed snow and I quickly came to appreciate the new shape when exiting a turn and initiating the next. The VJJ isn’t a particularly damp ski but it handles chop and crud to my satisfaction. Well enough that I will absolutely be investing in the updated 2015 version.
The VJJ 2.0 is 137mm in the tip, 116mm underfoot, and 133mm in tail. This ski features the EST Freeride Rocker meaning rockered tips and tails with camber underfoot to provide edge control in harder snow. The shape also has a more gradual taper than its predecessor so it’s a bit less curvaceous, yet still alluring.
This ski is perfect for ladies looking to get rowdy on all sorts of terrain, I also think it makes a decent option for touring. For aggressive female skiers that refuse to sacrifice powder performance but want something that can also function as an all-mtn tool, I think the VJJ 2.0 is a great option to consider.
