Norrøna ambassador Bjørn-Eivind Årtun reports on the frozen water of western Norway:
Conditions for Iceclimbing has been outstanding on the west coast this year, though kind of special. The temperature dropped really low very fast. Big waterfalls in the lowlands formed better than ever, while things higher up with less water kind of dried out before they could form all the way.
Månafossen in Rogaland is one of those strong, powerful waterfalls that seldom forms, but this year it was climbable. I was lucky to go with Edvard Middelthon to do the first ascent. For us it was an extraordinary experience, the ice was formed into lots of brittle, hanging icicles in overhanging terrain making it our steepest iceclimb ever.
One week earlier I went and climbed the classic big icicle in Utladalen, Vettisfossen with Nils Nilsen. Conditions was good there as well. It is very steep, with big formations and very, very wet. We where dripping with water inside and outside arriving at the top.
