The Lib Tech Box Scratcher is Jesse Burtner’s time-tested freestyle pro model, back for the 2014/15 season. It has a twin shape, soft flex, and features Lib Tech’s classic Banana profile, which places rocker in between the bindings with flat sections underfoot, extending to mild camber out towards the tip and tail. This gives it a fun feel that’s easy to turn and hard to catch an edge on, making it a blast to jib and butter your way through the park.
New for the Box Scratcher this year is a Power A wood core, which gives it a lightweight, lively feel with plenty of pop. It also has Lib Tech’s Magna-Traction, which uses seven strategically-placed bumps along the edges to give it insane grip on icy slopes. Plus, the edges come pre-beveled straight out of the plastic, so you can get straight to boardsliding without worrying about hanging up on rails.
The day I rode the Box Scratcher it was about 40 degrees outside and sunny. Right off the bat it was clear how insanely soft this board was. Just riding down groomers and buttering around was pretty much the most fun ever. However, it could still hold an edge well at speed thanks to the Magne-Traction. Once I got into the park, it was a dream to jib with. Presses were effortless and it had plenty of pop off lips. It also held its own on jumps, although I’d be hesitant to take it off monster booters just because of how soft it is.
If your main focus when riding park is sending 60-footers, then you might want to look elsewhere. But if your thing is jibbing, buttering, and just generally goofing around inside and out of the park, then the Lib Tech Box Scratcher will be one of the most fun boards you’ll ever ride.
