The Volkl Mantra is back this season with a new rocker profile, making it more versatile than ever before.
The day I tested the Mantra was one of the deepest days of the year. It was nuking all day at Alta, giving us fresh tracks every run. It’s been re-designed with a versatile 100mm waist width, early taper in the tips, and a full rocker profile.
The full rocker shape and tapered tips really gave the Mantra a boost in soft snow performance. They had good floatation and surfy feel in the powder. Even though I skied these on a day when I normally would go with a super-fat powder ski, I was impressed with just how much fun they were.
The sidecut and flex are also designed to match the full rocker shape, so the more you put the ski on edge the more effective the edge becomes. Great for railing some turns on the groomers on the way back to the lift.
The Mantra is 132 mm in the tip, 100 underfoot, and 118 in the tail. It also has a race-inspired power construction that allows you to confidently rip turns in hard, icy conditions.
In short, the new Volkl Mantra delivers the all-mountain performance it’s known for, with better performance in the powder and a more forgiving feel. If you’re on the hunt for a one-ski quiver, you can’t go wrong with this thing.
