Escape from an avalanche, thanks to the Mammut Ride Airbag

On January 6, 2012, the Austrian Mammut athlete Johannes Zangerl had decided to spend the day freeriding in the Stubai Alps. Following the heavy snowfall over the previous few days, the Krinnenköpfe were covered in masses of fresh snow. After completing three runs in the same area, on his fourth attempt Johannes was caught up in an avalanche and carried over rocky terrain for a distance of 450 meters. Fortunately, he was wearing the new Mammut Ride Airbag RAS backpack and was able to pull the deployment handle in time. As a result of the additional volume, he came to a stop on top of the 50 x 150 meter avalanche deposit and was even able to free himself before his friends arrived. Product information: www.mammut.ch
